UNESCO World Heritage Santo Domingo
After a relaxing beach day and a stay on the lonely island of Saona is a visit to the capital Santo Domingo on the agenda. The city offers a fabulous mix of 16th century houses, impressing late medieval palaces and fortresses. The colonial city was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The sightseeing programme includes various sights and toursthrough the old town, including the Parque Colón where the statue of Christopher Columbus is located and the Alcazár de Colón Palace. In addition, the ‘Parque Nacional Tres Ojos’ with its four freshwater lagoons will also be visited.
Exploring the Samaná Peninsula
During your excursion in Samaná you will discover all the natural beauties of the peninsula like a remote waterfall being siutated in the middle of the jungle where you can take a refreshing bath in a lagoon. National Park Los Haitises and Bacardi Island
The boat tour to the National Park ‘Los Haitises’ takes you to the coastal zone of the more than 200 km² nature reserve. A huge green mangrove belt stretches along the coast and over 50 small islands form a labyrinth of waterways. An excursion to the Cayo Levantado, also called ‘Bacardi Island’, is also part of the program. The two kilometre long and about 500 metre wide island is a nature reserve and surrounded by a light to turquoise blue sea. In combination with the gorgeous white sandy beaches, the island offers a breathtaking scenery.
