The peninsula Samaná has a lot of great sights and national parks to offer. Here is a small selection:
Bacardi Island:
The Cayo Levantado also called “Bacardi Island”, is a dream island as it is known from postcards. The two kilometer long and about 500-meter wide island is a nature reserve and surrounded by a light to turquoise blue sea. In combination with the gorgeous white sandy beaches, the island offers a breathtaking scenery.
Los Haitises National Park:
The Los Haitises National Park is located in the north-east of the country and is one of the most important nature reserves in the Caribbean. A huge green mangrove belt stretches along the coast and over 50 small islands form a labyrinth of waterways. The surface is very irregular and consists mostly of limestone hills of 200 to 300 m height. There are tropical rainforests, freshwater rivers, mangrove forests, crystal clear lagoons, mysterious stalactite caves and beautiful coral landscapes. An excursion on Dominican Republic tours through the National Park is an absolute must for nature lovers.
