Bayahibe Weather: The Perfect Travel Time

The Dominican Republic is located in the Caribbean and is blessed with daily temperatures of about 28°C to 30°C and at least 7 to 8 hours of sunshine in the high tourist season. The Bayahibe weather corresponds to the average climate of the country. Even in the rainy low season between July and the beginning of October, 5 to 6 hours of sunshine can be expected daily, which makes the coastal town of Bayahibe a great holiday destination all year round. If you want to avoid possible storm zones during your holiday, you should plan your stay in Bayahibe, as well as in the rest of the country, in the optimal travel time between December and the beginning of April. Also the water temperatures are constantly warm and fluctuate between 24°C and 26°C.

National Park of the East-Nationalpark Cotubanama

The National Park of the East (today called Cotubanama National Park) is located in the east of the country between Bayahibe and Boca de Yuma. On an area of 312.44 km² it spreads on the southeastern peninsula Hispaniola, while another 106.5 km² section of the park includes the entire Isla Saona. The extensive national park includes an amazing terrestrial and marine biodiversity and is managed according to concepts of sustainable park management and effective conservation of the unique marine and continental ecosystems. Fascinating excursions to observe bottlenose dolphins and manatees are a highlight of a visit to Cotubanama Park.

The idyllic island of Saona, part of the National Park of the East, is one of the most treasured dream destinations in the Dominican Republic. Due to its impressive marine biodiversity, the island is also a popular destination for lovers of the maritime world, who can discover the Isla saona and its underwater highlights on fantastic diving excursions.

Conquista Park

From Bayahibe it is only a short drive to Conquista Park, which is located north of the Autopista del Coral. In Conquista Park, visitors have the unique opportunity to learn about the history of the country’s indigenous people and their destiny in a very lively way. The overwhelming museum visit leads through different scenes of an authentic Tainos village and demonstrates on the basis of 247 life-size figures the harmonious life of the Tainos with nature, in addition, the destruction of the legendary Tainos native population by the Konquistadoren of the Spanish crown. In the extremely interesting museum on site, more than 130 original, historical Tainos objects can also be admired.

Cueva del Puente

An exciting excursion to the bridge cave Cueva del Puente is a very special experience. From Bayahibe it is only a short trip on foot to the entrance of the “National Park of the East”, from where a 3 km long hike through its dense vegetation and its amazingly species-rich terrain follows. Of the more than 400 caves of the national park, most of which are decorated with fine paintings and sensational cave drawings, only one can be visited with admirable Taino pictographs of animals, humans and Taino images of higher beings, the Cueva del Puente. Solid, hard-wearing footwear and a handy flashlight are necessary for the walk through this sensational cave.
