Bayahibe Weather: The Perfect Travel Time

National Park of the East-Nationalpark Cotubanama
The National Park of the East (today called Cotubanama National Park) is located in the east of the country between Bayahibe and Boca de Yuma. On an area of 312.44 km² it spreads on the southeastern peninsula Hispaniola, while another 106.5 km² section of the park includes the entire Isla Saona. The extensive national park includes an amazing terrestrial and marine biodiversity and is managed according to concepts of sustainable park management and effective conservation of the unique marine and continental ecosystems. Fascinating excursions to observe bottlenose dolphins and manatees are a highlight of a visit to Cotubanama Park.

From Bayahibe it is only a short drive to Conquista Park, which is located north of the Autopista del Coral. In the extremely interesting museum on site, more than 130 original, historical Tainos objects can also be admired.
Cueva del Puente
An exciting excursion to the bridge cave Cueva del Puente is a very special experience. From Bayahibe it is only a short trip on foot to the entrance of the “National Park of the East”, from where a 3 km long hike through its dense vegetation and its amazingly species-rich terrain follows. Of the more than 400 caves of the national park, most of which are decorated with fine paintings and sensational cave drawings, only one can be visited with admirable Taino pictographs of animals, humans and Taino images of higher beings, the Cueva del Puente. Solid, hard-wearing footwear and a handy flashlight are necessary for the walk through this sensational cave.
